Eden Place

By Ian O'Brien

At the bottom of Mary Street, the road alongside Boots Chemist was the site of the oldest Methodist Wesleyan Chapel in Cheadle, as a pupil at Cheadle Primary School, I remember myself and other pupils attending a Harvest Festival there Autumn day in the mid-70s.

The congregation had met in private houses originally before the first meeting house was built on Barncroft, near Cheadle railway station, They moved to Eden Place in March 1865. This is now 10 Eden Place, which is used as offices, currently BMI Healthcare. The BMI hospital, otherwise known as The Alexandra Hospital, is literally on the other side of the railway line behind 10 Eden Place. from research (April 2018) planning permission has been granted for 22 apartments.

**Three shops past Costa Coffee on the High Street was the  Wool Shop.
