Downes Bridge is on Wilmslow Road and takes the road over Micker Brook, and was originally built in 1872.
The road was closed in February 1996 for renovation work to be done on the bridge to allow it to take heavier vehicles.
However, the work was plagued by problems, such as the various contractors becoming bankrupt and it was June 2000 before the bridge reopened. It was said that it took longer to repair Downes Bridge than it did to build the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco!
To the south at this point the road leads to Cheadle Hulme and Bruntwood Park and Hall.
There are vehicle entrances on the right of the Wilmslow Road, with the main entrance being off Schools Hill.
